What warrant.guru is — and isn’t
A free, plain-language directory of documented official warrant and court-record resources, with their coverage, access requirements, and limits. Operated by Justin Butler. This informational guide covers all 50 states and DC; commercial bail-service links are limited to Michigan and Ohio.
What this is
A state-by-state reference with multiple resource categories. Each page describes the resources found so far and how to contact the issuing court to confirm current warrant status.
How we research it
We review official judiciary, sheriff, police, and clerk publications and their links to government-hosted or officially designated vendor services. Each resource records a source-review date. Publication and scope evidence do not prove that a search interface currently works; we did not submit person or case searches in the latest review.
What we don’t do
We do not store, search, cache, or republish warrant records or mugshots. Correction emails and limited operational logs are handled as described below. We don’t promise to find your warrant for you, and we don’t refer, rank, or recommend any attorney or legal service.
Where we go deeper
Michigan and Ohio have county-level directories of court and sheriff contacts, as an additional public reference. Each entry states the listed court’s jurisdiction. Directory coverage is separate from commercial eligibility, and all states have an official court contact route.
Resource types and inventory coverage
- Statewide warrant tools
- Statewide geographic reach, subject to warrant-type, reporting-agency, disclosure, and update limits. A statewide tool can publish only part of the state’s warrant file.
- Agency warrant resources
- Warrants within one agency’s responsibilities, such as State Troopers or a corrections department. These can differ from general court warrants.
- Local warrant searches and lists
- Resources limited to named counties, cities, courts, or agencies. Searchable databases and published lists are labeled separately.
- Selected wanted-person notices
- Selected most-wanted or fugitive notices. These do not establish a complete warrant database.
- Court records and docket indicators
- Case searches with court and case-type limits. Some show bench-warrant information or warrant-related docket entries. Those entries alone do not establish current enforceability or exclude warrants elsewhere.
This inventory is incomplete. The latest classification review covered all 51 state and DC guides and documented 97 resource entries, including restricted, unavailable, and unresolved entries. It did not enumerate every court, sheriff, police department, or local online service. Entries can describe separate features on the same platform; the count is not a count of working public search tools.
“No general warrant lookup was verified” describes the evidence found in this review. It does not mean no online warrant search exists in that state. Restricted systems, unresolved routes, and unavailable services are shown separately and excluded from public category counts. Federal, tribal, territorial, and military court systems are outside this 50-state-and-DC inventory.
Accuracy, and the limits we won’t hide
This is “your money or your life” information, so we’d rather be careful than impressive. Where an official online tool exists, we describe exactly what it does and doesn’t show — some are not updated in real time, some only cover one agency’s warrants, and some reflect warrant status inside a case docket rather than as a standalone search.
Online lists can lag reality in both directions. A name that isn’t listed does not prove there’s no warrant, and a listing may already be resolved. The only authority on a warrant is the court that issued it. Treat everything here as a starting point and confirm anything that matters directly with that court.
Found something out of date or wrong? Email corrections@warrant.guru with the page URL, the disputed statement, and a current official source. Eligible reports receive an automatic acknowledgment and enter a human review queue. We review evidence before changing the site; a report never triggers automatic publication. This inbox cannot confirm warrants, give legal advice, or handle emergencies. Do not send personal identifiers or sensitive case documents.
Privacy and correction reports
This guide has no accounts, tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or warrant-search form. Official sites you open have their own privacy practices. We do not collect the names or dates of birth you enter on those sites.
Operational logs record requested page paths, response status, and request time for up to 30 days. Our configured access logs omit visitor IP addresses, cookies, user-agent strings, and query strings. Avoid placing personal information in URLs.
If you email a correction, we retain your email address and the text you send to assess the report and reply. Access is limited to the operator and authorized reviewers. Pending reports remain until reviewed; reviewed reports are deleted after 90 days. Do not include warrant records, identification numbers, or case documents.
