Is there an online warrant search in Michigan?

Some counties

Partly — some Michigan counties publish an online warrant search, but there’s no single statewide one.

The official online lookup

Michigan has no single statewide public active-warrant search.

The statewide MiCOURT Case Search (micourt.courts.michigan.gov/case-search) shows trial-court case and docket data but explicitly does not display whether a case is in warrant status, and Michigan State Police ICHAT is a paid criminal-history/conviction check rather than a pending-warrant tool.

However, some Michigan district courts and county sheriffs publish their own outstanding-warrant lists online.

For example, Ingham County's 55th Judicial District Court (Lansing) posts a public 'Warrant List for Criminal/Traffic Offenses' at dc.ingham.org, and other district courts and sheriff's offices post similar lists.

Coverage is county-by-county and not comprehensive, so if the relevant county or court does not publish a list, confirm the current status directly with the clerk of the issuing court or the county sheriff's warrant division.

How to find out if you have a warrant in Michigan

Warrants are issued by courts and served by sheriffs — so the surest way to confirm one is to ask the source directly. Work down this list.

  1. Check the district court's or county sheriff's online warrant list, where one is published

Some Michigan district courts and county sheriffs post their outstanding-warrant lists online. For example, Ingham County's 55th Judicial District Court (Lansing) publishes a public 'Warrant List for Criminal/Traffic Offenses.' Coverage varies by county, so check the website of the district court or sheriff for the county where you believe a case exists; if no list is posted there, use the direct-contact methods below.

  2. Call the clerk of the district or circuit court where the case is/was filed

Bench and failure-to-appear warrants are issued by the court. Contact the clerk of the district court (misdemeanors/traffic) or circuit court (felonies) for the county where you believe a case exists and ask whether an active warrant is on file; provide your full name and date of birth. Court directory is on the Michigan Courts site.

    Open official site
  3. Contact the county sheriff's warrant division

County sheriffs hold and enter warrants into the statewide LEIN system. The sheriff's warrant unit in the relevant county can confirm whether a warrant is outstanding.

  4. Search MiCOURT Case Search to confirm a case exists

This statewide portal shows participating trial courts' case records by name. It confirms whether a case exists but does not show active-warrant status; treat it as a case lookup, not a warrant check.

    Open official site
  5. Run a Michigan State Police ICHAT criminal-history check

ICHAT (Internet Criminal History Access Tool) is a paid public background check. It reports criminal-history records, which may indicate charges, but is not a definitive pending-warrant tool.

Types of warrants in Michigan

Not every warrant means the same thing. These are the common types.

Bench warrant
issued by a judge for failure to appear at a hearing or failure to comply with a court order, such as unpaid fines
Arrest warrant
issued on a complaint supported by probable cause to take a named person into custody
Search warrant
authorizes a search of a place or property; a police tool, not a public lookup

What happens if a warrant is ignored

An unserved warrant generally stays active until the court recalls it or the matter is resolved; warrants do not expire on their own.

Michigan warrants are typically entered into LEIN, so they are visible to law enforcement statewide, and you can be arrested during any law-enforcement contact, such as a traffic stop.

The court may set or raise bail on a bench/failure-to-appear warrant.

What you can do

Procedural steps only — no outcome is predicted.

Confirm whether a warrant exists and get its details by contacting the clerk of the issuing court: ask for the case or warrant number, the charge, whether a court date is set, and any bail amount.

Note any scheduled court date and plan to appear.

If you decide to resolve it, ask the court or sheriff how to proceed (for example, requesting a hearing to recall a bench warrant or surrendering during business hours with photo ID).

Your rights. You have the right to talk to a lawyer about your situation, and if you cannot afford one, you can ask the court about a public defender.
